Hypnosis & NLP: How to Hypnotize Someone! Part 4

This is part 4 of the mini course Hypnosis & NLP: How to Hypnotize Someone.
In this course we are going to deal about Sub Modalities. Things are going to be deeper than what we've seen about Modalities in part 3 of the course Hypnosis & NLP: How to Hypnotize Someone.

If you haven't read the preceding courses in this series, then I suggest you to read them first!
Here is the link to Part 3 of Hypnosis & NLP: How to Hypnotize Someone.

Sub modalities

Sub modality is a subject that deals with modalities in a deeper level. Sub modalities are used to alter the message that gets into the subconscious mind, thereby influencing choice made by people.
How? Let's see.

Right now, after reading the following specifications of two cars, Car A and Car B, I want you to choose any one. I will guess what most people will choose and why they have chosen that car, at the end of this post.
Make your mind clear, and select. It should be the car that comes to your mind and let it be automatic.

Gray carCar A:
A grey car, having cooling system that cuts off heat and keeps you cool. It is compact enough to hold four person at a time.

Red CarCar B:
A red coloured bright car, comfortable to hold four person. It has a very good temperature system that maintains comfortable warmth.

Before giving you the answers to what you choose and why you choose, let's discuss about Sub modalities usage in therapy. I'm a certified NLP practitioner, and I had a course in NLP about therapy using Sub modalities.

Seeing him smallLets see how a person describes himself when being depressed. As described in the previous post, his physiology will be weaker. He sees himself relatively small among others (Visual). He hears his mind voice saying, "you are useless" (Auditory). He feels that he has been pushed into a colder place (Kinaesthetic). Then we, the therapist will alter this image created within their subconscious level, to create a happy mind.

Seeing him bigYou know what image to be created in their mind? That is the exact opposite of what they are having in the depressed state. We ask them to imagine themself standing tall among others, seeing the image of them more colourful and brighter, hearing their mind voice saying loudly that, "You are the Best", and feeling a warm sensation. By repeatedly having this mental image, depression will no longer can exist.

Now back to the question, Why your mind have an affinity towards that car you've chosen? Well we'll discuss that now.
You can influence anything that people want to select by adding three sub modality effects.

Visual sub-modality

The use of bigger brighter image in Hypnosis & NLP: How to Hypnotize SomeoneYou can add effects into visual information that a person perceives. The mind does not see only the image but also it notes the size, distance, colour, etc., of everything that is present in that image.
If you add more visual effect to something making it look bigger and brighter, then people will have affinity over that thing. Rather if you make something to look dull and small, then people will skip that thing.

This is the reason why advertisers use bigger and brighter image of the product that they are promoting. If they show other products to compare, then they will use smaller black and white image of that product to create a dull impression in the minds of the consumer.

Auditory sub-modality

Loud and clear

Auditory sub-modality includes sound and more specifically the information that is carried by that sound, like loudness, gender of voice, location, emotion in voice, etc.,

Adding auditory effects includes creating loudness, clear, etc., to the sound. Doing this will create positive impact in the people. Adding too much loudness will obviously create negative annoying effect.

Kinaesthetic sub-modality

WarmApart from sensation, Kinaesthetic sub-modality includes feeling the temperature, point of contact, size of contact, comfort or discomfort, etc.

Adding effects in something to make it feel warm, soft and comfortable will have a positive impact. To create a negative impact about something, then create feeling like cold, sharp, rigid associated with that thing.

These alterations in Sub-modalities can create dramatic effect in people to choose the thing that you want them to choose. These are subtle but very powerful weapon to alter the opinion people have about something. That is the reason why most people will select the Car B.

  1. Grreat tips for Reader enjoyment,
Learning hypnosis is a hands-on science. Being told to speak in a calm and reassuring voice is one thing; actually seeing somebody speak in this common reassuring voice is another. People learn much more easily by seeing and then doing, as there is much less left to interpretation in this case. This is one reason why hypnosis videos are a prime educational medium when it comes to learning this particular art. Unfortunately, there are scarce few videos on the Internet where you can learn how to do hypnosis in a scientific and effective fashion. However, given time and inclination, obtaining any source of knowledge is possible. Hypnosis videos are no different.
Hypnosis videos are scarce and you, as we mentioned above, however, they are definitely not nonexistent. You simply need to know where to seek them out. There are several hypnosis courses available online that are presented in text form. If you have found that learning hypnosis from books is not served you well, is probably a good idea to steer clear from these, regardless of the kind of wild claims that they make as they might simply not be suited to your particular learning style. There are several other courses however that also comprise video elements. It is important to know however that several of these courses that promise videos only offer them as a sort of prop. They do not actually have any video content to note, but are only up-selling their text based hypnosis courses by throwing in a few videos. These are usually the kind of videos that you should stay away from. On the other hand, there are several hypnosis courses that are purely video-based. In these courses, videos take the starring role, whereas text explaining said videos takes a backseat. It is even better when these video elements contain intermissions in which text explaining the next hypnosis exercise are presented. This gives you an ample opportunity to positive video and read this snippet of text in order to orient yourself about what needs to be done during the upcoming exercise. Hypnosis videos are definitely an excellent way to learn this mysterious signs, for more reader enjoyment

  3. Weird. I chose car A. Because I'm not a very flashy person and I hate feeling hot in a car. I would hate having a red car because I don't want everyone looking at me. What does that say about me?

    1. Well, that ain't weird! Most probably you must be an introvert. According to wikipedia,

Introversion is "the state of or tendency toward being wholly or predominantly concerned with and interested in one's own mental life". Some popular writers have characterized introverts as people whose energy tends to expand through reflection and dwindle during interaction. This is similar to Jung's view, although he focused on psychic energy rather than physical energy. Few modern conceptions make this distinction.
The common modern perception is that introverts tend to be more reserved and less outspoken in groups. They often take pleasure in solitary activities such as reading, writing, using computers, hiking and fishing. The archetypal artist, writer, sculptor, engineer, composer and inventor are all highly introverted. An introvert is likely to enjoy time spent alone and find less reward in time spent with large groups of people, though he or she may enjoy interactions with close friends. Trust is usually an issue of significance: a virtue of utmost importance to an introvert is choosing a worthy companion. They prefer to concentrate on a single activity at a time and like to observe situations before they participate, especially observed in developing children and adolescents. They are more analytical before speaking. Introverts are easily overwhelmed by too much stimulation from social gatherings and engagement, introversion having even been defined by some in terms of a preference for a quiet, more minimally stimulating environment.
Introversion is not seen as being identical to shy or to being a social outcast. Introverts prefer solitary activities over social ones, whereas shy people (who may be extroverts at heart) avoid social encounters out of fear."

If wiki predicted your character correctly, then you are an introvert.
